Ethiopia signs grant agreement worth 20 mn Euros with European Commission to improve citizens’ health

A total amount of 20 million euros (about 644 million birr) grant agreement was signed between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the European Commission with a ceremony held at the Ministry of Finance on December 21, 2018. This grant has been availed to improve health and nutrition of Ethiopian citizens with specific emphasis on improving health and nutrition of women and adolescent girls and children under five years of age.

The project is aiming at contributing to the efforts of the Government of Ethiopia to reduce poverty and engage in inclusive growth through improved health and nutrition outcomes. The implementation of the project mainly contributes to the improvement of access and quality of health services and reducing harmful practices in Afar, Benishangul-Gumuz and Gambella regions.

The project will be executed by the respective regional states in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health within the next five years.

H.E. Ato Admasu Nebebe, State minister, Ministry of Finance and Mr. Erik Habers, Head of Cooperation, the European Delegation to Ethiopia signed the agreement on behalf of the Ethiopian Government and the European Commission respectively.
