A rendezvous with a beauty queen
- October 16, 2018
She is a former Miss Ghana, winner of Miss Africa Continent 2016 and a Miss United Nations World 2017 pageant holder. Rebeckita Asamoah is charm personified. And she is willing to dole out advice on how to maintain good oral health, not just because she has a million dollar smile herself but because she is also a dental hygienist.
So what brought her to India? The former beauty queen was in New Delhi to judge Diadem Mrs India Legacy 2018, a platform started by Amisha Chaudhary, the first Indian to be crowned as Ms. United Nations 2017 in the United Nations Private Pageant.
On the last day of her stay in India, Rebeckita paid a courtesy call on the Ghana High Commissioner, H.E. Mr. Michael Aaron N. N. Oquaye Esq (Jnr) on Monday. She was accompanied by her colleague-cum-friend Amisha Chaudhary and designer Dimple Kapoor.
During their conversation, Rebeckita recalled what made her transition from a dental hygienist to a pageant diva. “I was working for FC group of companies when someone suggested me to participate in Miss Ghana. I gave it a try and won,” she says with a grin.
Emphasizing how fashion has always supported philanthropy, she adds that her upbringing has inculcated a sense of compassion in her, which is why she is attached to a number of humanitarian causes, especially those related to children.
In the brief rendezvous, Rebeckita and the High Commissioner bonded over memories of their homeland, discussing everything under the sun – from the culture of the two nations to companionship to their joint dislike for the Indian vegetarian food.
The beautiful evening was full of laughter, anecdotes, with one story leading to another. With the promise of coming back to India again to further explore the country, Rebeckita bid adieu to the land which was not unfamiliar to her anymore.
