Senegal: Delay in reopening of schools due to Covid-19

The Senegalese government has decided to delay the opening of schools after a hustle of coronavirus infections was detected among teachers in the south of the country. 550,000 out of 3.5 million children in the system have been scheduled to return to their classrooms on Tuesday, after two-and-a-half months of school closures, but late at night, the education ministry declared that the initiative was being delayed “until a later date”.

It said a huge number of coronavirus cases had been observed among teachers in Casamance, a region in Senegal’s far south. The education ministry official told the radio station RFM that 10 teachers had been affected in the Ziguinchor region, the capital area of Casamance.
To throw some light, President Macky Sall decided to delay the return to school to a later date in order to prevent any risk of spread of this virus. He called on the officials to “continue to work that is already in progress for a restarting, ” the ministry said.
