Established in 1959, and named after the Ngorongoro Crater, the park is a residence to a range of endangered species such as the black rhino, wild dogs, cheetahs, hippopotamus, wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelle, Cape buffalo, the golden cat and about 500 species of birds, many of which are rare and only visible here. The park is also home to 25000 large animals, mostly ungulates.
Karoo National Park
Located in the outskirts of Beaufort West, South Africa, the national park is spread across 767.9 sq. km. and is a sanctuary for several species like springbok, gemsbok, cape mountain zebra, Cape buffalo, red hartebeest, black rhinoceros, eland, kudu, klipspringer, foxes, jackals, ostriches and lions. You can also spot several distinct tortoise species. The landscape is extremely dry and harsh due to low annual rainfall.
