CHECK BEFORE YOU SHARE: Fact Lens Ghana presents Webinar on Building Resilience Against Mis(dis)information to Protect Communities

Spread the news

Media and Information Literacy (MIL) for Millennials (M4M) focuses on Dis(mis) information and how it can be addressed.

About this Event:

Living in a digital age where anyone can create and share content freely, we are faced with the emergence of fake news. Content they say is King and as such wilds power to make or break society. Covid-19 has proven that we need credible information to stay healthy and alive. Also, credible information helps us to hold duty bearers accountable to the people. The effect of dis(mis)information is largely felt offline. Thus, as digital citizens, it is important to fight dis(mis)information to ensure that people have credible information to make informed decisions. M4M as abbreviated focuses on Dis(mis) information and how it can be addressed. Through advocacy and outreach, we envisage building a community free from false news and instill in citizens the need to verify information first before sharing.

#CHECKBEFOREYOUSHARE

This event is in partnership with Goethe-Institut. The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide that promotes the study of German abroad and encourages international cultural exchange.

Now what happens when the information we are receiving or consuming is untrue, half-truths, or misleading? It poses a threat to our living.

One important thing to note is that the effect of mis(dis)information is felt more offline than online.

One may wonder why people share false information;

  • For monetary gains
  • For political gains
  • To sway public opinion

Media and Information Literacy(MIL) is important in order to help people to know how to access information, how to analyse information and how to use the information received.
