About 215,277 Nigerians have received their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines. This was announced in a tweet by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Tuesday evening. According to the head of the department, Faisal Shuaib, the figure is nearly double the number of people vaccinated as of Monday, March 22.
Mr Shuaib reported at the Presidential Task Force’s (PTF) weekly briefing on COVID-19 on Monday that 122,410 people had received the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Since the vaccination began, he said, no serious side effects have been identified. COVID-19 vaccination has started in 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory, according to the CDC (FCT). The states of Kogi, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Oyo have yet to begin vaccination.
“Vaccines were not sent to Kogi State because their cold store was vandalized during the EndSARS protest,” Mr Shuaib explained at the press conference. Lagos State, with 58,461, has the largest number of people vaccinated, according to the department. Bauchi is next, with 23,827 votes, Jigawa -20,800, Ogun – 19,257, and Kaduna -14,527.
