Somalia: Hassan Mohamed Elmi, appointed as Deputy Minister in Internal Security

Hassan Mohamed Elmi, Nasser Fellow from Somalia appointed as Deputy Minister in Internal Security in Hirshabelle Regional state.

“It is an honour and privilege to serve my people and my country. If it wasn’t my working experience with a various youth organization and especially Nasser fellowship together with my passion to advocate the youth and women rights I would not be where I am today which am thankful for.”

Hassan Mohamed Elmi was born and raised in Mogadishu, Somalia.  He attended SIIDI Primary School and AL HIKMA Secondary School before joining SIMAD UNIVERSITY where he graduated with a bachelor in Information and Technology degree(first class with honours). Since his completion of the bachelors in 2014, he worked in various local and international NGOs in advocating youth and women rights with communities around Somalia. He also worked in the ministry of Youth and Women Affairs in Hirshabelle Regional state.

Currently, after consolation with the community elders and the youth organizations, the regional government named him as the Deputy Minister in Internal Security.

The Nasser Leadership Fellowship is organized under the auspices of the Cabinet of Egypt and is offered by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the field of leadership through popularizing the experience of the Arab Republic of Egypt concerning the creation of national institutions while targeting young decision-makers and workers from civil society institutions. The second cohort is supposed to include Asian and Latin nationalities after the success of the first cohort.
