Egypt: At least 11 killed, 100 injured in train crash north of Cairo

There was a train accident in Egypt’s Qalioubia province north of Cairo. Around Eleven people were killed and 100 injured badly and many others are in bad shape in the tragedy. The train was going to the Nile Delta city of Mansoura from Cairo.  According to Railway authorities at least four train wagons were sidetracked or ran off the tracks at the city of Banha in the province.

Tarek Gomaa was a passenger travelling in the train and he was injured. He narrated the events before the accident:

“I was within the air-conditioned car Number 3, and before the (Sandanor) station, we were surprised by the train speeding up and that we found ourselves on top of every other, and dense dust and that we couldn’t get out.”

Egypt’s Health Ministry said during a statement that a minimum of 100 others were injured while around 60 ambulances were sent to transfer the injured from the scene to nearby hospitals.
