On a Zoom Interview with SABC News (a 24-hours news channel that broadcast the latest news from around South Africa and the World), Nthabiseng Modjadji talked about the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership- 2nd Cohort hosted under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, scheduled for June 1-15, 2021 in Cairo.
Modjadji is an African leader, one of the co-authors of the “Africa 80” Book 2021 and co-founder of the Breaking Down Borders Africa Initiative in 2016; her most recent achievement is leading a youth team on a diplomatic tour of 10 African countries through a collaborative initiative with youth-led organizations.
On her experience attending Egypt’s World Youth Forum 2019, she explained how this Forum brought together African youth from around the continent through music and that she realized to what extent the African issues could be universal. She said that the Youth Forum connected young Africans with each other through interactive discussions on their common challenges.
“I feel very honored! I am part of a group of youth leaders who work with the African Peer Review Mechanism […]. I applied (for the Fellowship) and let them know about the work of my organization. Luckily enough, I was selected to attend the Fellowship. I am excited to engage with other African Youth from across the continent and the world. It will be hosted under the theme South-South Cooperation”, answered Modjadji when asked about her invitation to attend the 2nd Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership.
She added: “We need those opportunities where African Youth can collaborate […] engage, network and learn from each other, but I also think it’s important to create platforms where African youth can access information and content about the rest of the continent that is useful […] so African youth can find a way to engage…”
The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership builds upon Egypt’s ongoing efforts -following its chairmanship of the African Union for the year 2019- to strengthen the African youth role by providing them with all forms of support, habilitation and training, in addition to empowering them to occupy leadership positions, in order to capitalize on their capacities and insights. It is also one of the implementation mechanisms of the following: Egypt Vision 2030 -10 principles of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organization -Africa Agenda 2063 -Sustainable Development Goals 2030 -South – South Cooperation -African Union Roadmap on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth -African Youth Charter.
