The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday, sacked the Minister for Energy, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, of his position, with immediate effect.
President Akufo-Addo has asked Mr. Boakye Agyarko to hand over his office to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. John Peter Amewu, who will act temporarily as Minister for Energy, until a substantive appointment is made.
Though no official reason was cited for the abrupt dismissal of the Energy Minister, sources have claimed that Agyarko was removed because Akufo-Addo was unhappy with his handling of an agreement to extend an existing five-year deal with United Arab Emirates-based AMERI Energy to operate a 300MW emergency power plant.
