Ghana’s former leader Jerry Rawlings died at the age of 72. He seized power twice in military coups also. Then he went on to bring democratic rule to the West African country, ghana. He died on Thursday as the country’s president declared. Current President Nana Akufo-Addo said he died in the hospital in the capital, Accra. He was under treatment after a short illness. The president also expressed his grieve, “A great tree has fallen, and Ghana is poorer for this loss,”
The president ordered that the flags around the country would be lowered to express grieve for seven days of national mourning from Friday. He also suspended campaigning for the upcoming elections in December. Rawlings was born in 1947. He was a son to a Scottish father and a Ghanaian mother. He was trained as an air force officer.
