IMF working ‘very intensively’ with Sudan for debt relief

Spread the news

The International Fund (IMF) is working “very intensively” with Sudan. They are functioning so hard to create the conditions for broad debt relief.  IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said that they are also planning to assess progress on a staff-monitored programme in March.

According to sources, she said that she was encouraged by strong support from the US, the UK and other member countries for providing debt relief to Sudan. And that to be under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative. This was done by the determination of the Sudanese authorities.

Georgieva said that  They are hoping that they could present to the membership a robust case on Sudan as swiftly as possible for HIPC. They will do it in order that the country can reintegrate with the international community, and also said that they could possibly hear from her in March.
