Our foray into Healthcare is focused.
Well known industrialist and the dynamic Chairman & MD of JK Tyre, Dr. Raghupati Singhania and his generous wife Mrs. Sunanda Singhania (Executive Director, PSRI Hospital) are two such benevolent souls, who have dedicated to serve the humanity with their various philanthropic programmes. They admit with humble sincerity that the motive behind their foray into the healthcare is basically driven by a sense of social responsibility.
What was the driving force behind the establishment of Pushpawati Singhania Research Institute (PSRI)?
Our social outreach is diverse and wide spread across the country. It is not confined to hospitals only. We have community outreach programmes to the villages through mobile dispensaries. Emphasis is given to adult literacy programmes. In addition, we have a number of schools and universities. All such initiatives are inspired by the need of the society, so that it may benefit the community at large. When we moved to Delhi, we explored the prevailing healthcare scenario and discovered a gap in the treatment of digestive disorders, as 70 percent of the population was suffering from gastro related problems. There was no specialized center to take care of liver, kidney and digestive diseases. This encouraged us to establish a super speciality center, the first in South East Asia.
Was there a vision and a motivation behind venturing into the health sector?
My elder brother, Late Shri Hari Shankar Singhania along with us envisioned the idea of PSRI . Our vision was to create a world class tertiary care centre for Gastroenterology, Nephrology, G.I. Surgery and Urology. The other element was to endorse clinical research and institute PSRI as a seat of Teaching and Training as well.
PSRI is well known for its expertise in gastroenterology, kidney and liver diseases. Please tell us more about the services?
We are fully equipped round – the – clock to handle all ailments associated with digestive system, pancreas, gall bladder, intestines, liver, etc. We perform around 1000 endoscopic procedures in a month. Besides kidney transplant success rate is comparable to the best in the world.
JK Organisation’s healthcare mission is definitely praiseworthy but why have you restricted yourself to a single hospital?
We are keen to carve a niche for ourselves, rather than set into motion the propagation of hospitals that are coming up in huge numbers. PSRI is hallmark of excellence. Presently the institute is a reputed multispeciality hospital and is providing services in various areas of specialities like Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Kidney Transplant, GI Surgery, Urology, General Medicine, General Surgery, Geriatrics, Endocrinology, High End Critical Care, Gynaecology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Paediatric Nephrology, Endo-Vascular Surgeries, Respiratory Medicine, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Physiotherapy, Oncology, Nutrition & Dietetics, Blood Transfusion and Dentistry. Clinical research at our hospital has been recognized by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR ) and Director of Science and Technology.
How has your journey been as far as PSRI is concerned?
The journey so far has been highly challenging and immensely satisfying. Our success can be verified by the fact that model initiated by PSRI has been replicated by many institutes with great success. The tremendous progress which PSRI has undergone over the years has been possible due to acquisition of latest equipments, incorporation of latest technology, infrastructure addition and highly skilled expertise of care providers. As a result we have presently more than thirty specialities, a very large member of satisfied national and international patients, who prefer to be our “Brand Ambassadors”. PSRI ’s quality of services match the world standards. We are NABH and NABL accredited hospital. PSRI is a preferred referral institute for domestic and international heath care organizations. Of course striving for excellence is a neverending process. And our journey will continue…
