Mali’s opposition supporters were joyful after the removal of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, and called it as “the victory of the Malian people”. Thousands of people gathered on Friday in the birthplace of a months-long protest movement. They were draped in Mali’s national flag and were honking on vuvuzela horns. After mutinying troops arrested the 75 year-old president, they rallied for 3 days.
The troops made him announce his resignation and also said that a military government would rule until a “transitional president” took control. The military government thanked the people for their support.
