The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) said on Tuesday that the commercial flights have been suspended to and from Somalia for 3 months. It was declared just after the neighbours said that the diplomatic ties between two were normalised after months of tension.
Medevac [medical evacuation] flights and United Nations flights on humanitarian missions are allowed only. This is a directive given by the Government.
An airport tower operator said that they were not given a prior notice or any reasoning so far. This directive came after Somalia said shipments of khat – a narcotic leaf – from Kenya remained on hold.
