Lesotho’s former first lady Maesaiah Thabane in custody accused of the murder of a rival

Spread the news

The wife of Thomas Thabane, previous Lesotho Prime Minister who was accused of the murder of her husband’s first wife, returned to prison after the court void her judicial review, on Wednesday.

43 years old, Maesaiah Thabane, was accused in February for her indulgent in the 2017 murder of Lipolelo Thabane, the first wife of the past head of government Thomas Thabane.

A few weeks later after that, she married Thomas Thabane.

The Lesotho Court of Appeal reversed the controversial judicial review measures she had enjoyed last week. She will be in prison and will be reconvened on 16 June 2020, Judge Thamae Thamae told her.

Maesaiah Thabane was dressed in a tracksuit, brown coat and sneakers, and she calmly replied to the judge that she understood everything.

She was arrested when she was going back to her country. Ms. Thabane had already spent a few hours in jail earlier before being freed on parole in exchange for bail of 1,000 maloti (about 50 euros).
