In Mauritius, on 7 February 2021, the National Organising Committee of L’Escalier International City of Peace in close collaboration with the L’Escalier La Sourdine Shree Sathya Sai International Organisation, the Omnicane Foundation, the Mauritius Heart Foundation and the Social Welfare Centre of L’Escalier organised a mega blood donation and heart screening for the inhabitants of the village of L’Escalier.
The blood donation event started at 08.30 am and lasted until 01.00 pm while the heart screening from 09.00 am to 12.00 pm. After printed invitations were distributed throughout the village for the last few days, banners put and voice announcements made, the inhabitants responded positively to the event.
Diabetes, tension and BMI checks were conducted while the participants were explained the proper lifestyles for good health. The risks of cardiovascular diseases were discussed and the benefits of doing regular physical activities. As the Peace Ambassador Chelvin Ramsamy pointed out, one of the goals of the event was truly to sensitise the young and less young ones as to be in good health. According to him, this event is a wake-up call of the old adage that “health is wealth”. In total, a good turnout was noted with 87 blood pints collected and 107 heart screenings conducted.
