More than 45 people died in the Mediterranean boat tragedy

Spread the news

45 people died in the Mediterranean boat tragedy including 5 children. This incident happened this week. This is the worst shipwreck happened so far this year off Libya’s coast, as reported by the United Nations. In a statement released on Wednesday the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN’s refugee agency (UNHCR) reported that the 37 other survivors from the boat said that 45 people were killed there. This happened when the engine of the vessel exploded off the coast of Zwara.

The fishermen rescued the people. Federico Soda, head of the IOM’s mission in Libya, posted on Twitter that “Some 45 people die in Largest recorded shipwreck off Libya this year. There remains an absence of any dedicated, EU-led search and rescue programme. We fear that without an urgent increase in SaR capacity, there is a risk of more disasters.”
