Movie Review by Akansha Jain, TOA correspondent

There is no denying the fact that since Nollywood was launched in 1992 with the release of Living in Bondage, the industry has undergone several iterations. From the days of the burlap sack, costume oddities daubed epic movies to the days of bandwagon movies filmed abroad. There was also the era of comedy and romantic movies all culminating today in what can be described as the New Nollywood. Now let us talk about the movie.

If you love someone more than anyone else and circumstances make you stand against the very person you love. What will you do? Will you stand against him/her or just back off?

The storyline of Love is War revolves around the concept of political drama. The movie is filled with twists and turns. Let us find out what happens?

The wife Hankuri Phillips (Omoni Oboli) in the movie was a former minister. She is been appointed by the President to stand in upcoming gubernatorial elections in Ondo state. The turn is she is not preferred by the party stakeholders at the State level for reasons not unconnected with the fact that she is a woman and not an indigene of Ondo State. She is only affiliated to the State by marriage.

Her husband Dimeji Phillips (Richard Mofe-Damijo) in the movie is a doctor and is a great supporter of his wife.  He loves her very much.  But here comes the twist. He was made to stand against her wife in the elections.

You will have to see how far things will go? To what extent they will reach to be the Governor of the Ondo State? You have to see how the circumstances will go.

One who is avid about deep politics and fond of dirty political games should watch this movie as it is full of it. Every move is so suspenseful. It’s a perfect-match casting role for each character.

If we talk about individual scenes, there was a scene in which there was mention of a candidate securing the support of a Teachers Union by donating to the Union’s pension fund or something of the sort. This begs the question: are pension funds sourced from political donations or deductions from workers’ salaries?  This question has arisen.

If we talk about casting, Omoni Oboli has performed very well in the movie as she is an independent woman and it takes balls to stand in an election where all odds are against you. She has won many awards for African movies in 2011 and 2014. As she is the director and producer of the movie, the movie was much revolved around her, I dare say. Dimeji Phillips was also good for his role and other actors in the movie.

In the end, the genre of the movie was political drama so there was hardly any rumour to witness. Overall the movie excites much because of the dirty politics.
