Rudei Van Vuuren, Namibia’s sports icon states that he believes his country co-hosting the Cricket World Cup 2027 is the best thing that happened to Namibia. He further said that It was Namibia’s recent performance on the cricket pitch that played a huge part in the decisive moment awarding Namibia with the honour of the hosting rights, in conjunction with South Africa.

Rudei Van Vuuren is the Cricket Namibia President since 2018 and played both Rugby and Cricket world cup. The 49-year old sports icon told the reporters that “It’s massive and just for us as a nation. I think it’s one of the biggest things that will ever happen to us,”. He also mentioned that when in 2003 he played the world cup, it was Co-hosted by South Africa, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. However, the performance of Namibia inclined the mind towards them.

Besides being an honourable achievement, it will also act as a huge economic booster for Namibia, however, Van Vuuren admits that the country has limited training facilities with only five cricket pitches that is a huge challenge for the country.

Being optimistic, he mentioned that the Cricket board in Namibia is in constant talks with the authorities to work on this challenge. He is expecting a stadium that is of international standards and offers facilities at par with the best stadiums. Talking about the facilities, he said that the facilities are not bad at the moment but the Cricket World cup is a huge deal and the country might struggle to host the event in the absence of the best facilities.

Rudei Van Vuuren is also expecting an international standard stadium by the year 2027 in the Namibian capital Windhoek.
