Nigeria received an old “priceless” terracotta head. It is at least 600 years old. It was smuggled to the Netherlands as said by the ministry. It was smuggled through Ghana. Dutch ambassador Harry Van Dijk returned it to the Information Minister of Nigeria, Lai Mohammed. It happened on Thursday. It happened in a ceremony in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
He said that the smuggler had some forged documents to take it out of the country. He also informed that Dutch customs intercepted it at Amsterdam airport. They alerted the Information and Heritage Inspectorate of the Netherlands to give an opinion on the matter. Dutch officials then contacted their Nigerian contact persons. Now they have returned the artefact. Mohammed said Nigeria would continue to look their return.
