Nigeria Recorded 3,600 Rape Cases During Lockdown

The United Nations report revealed that Nigeria recorded many rape cases. They have reported with 3,600 rape cases nationwide. This report came yesterday. These cases are reported during the lockdown which was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The global body expressed their concern over the Gender-Based Violence in the country. They have also ranked Nigeria highest in drug use. The estimation rate was 14.3% as against 5.3% for the entire world.

The UN also said they were committed to continue the cooperation with the Ministry of Women Affairs. They were doing so to strengthen the availability of data on violence against women and girls. Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, proposed this during the launch. The launch was of the Violence Against Women and Girls Situation Room.
