A small group outside the Rue de Puerta magistrate court in Johannesburg is bringing attention to another pandemic going on in South Africa is what they call Gender-based violence and they are protesting against it. The government statistics say that in every 3 hours a woman is murdered. There has been a case reported of rape of women and then of her murder. Juliet Dakara, is waiting for the two men appearing in the family court who are accused of raping her 21-year granddaughter. Weeks ago the accused men broke into the house, raped her and then stabbed her.
The last year 2695 women were murdered in South Africa. Government is working on the legislation of gender-based violence but has a long way to go. Activists say they need to act fast or the conditions will be catastrophic.
