Spread the news

President Muhammadu Buhari has granted a health fund of  $890 million for fighting various health diseases. He directed the Minister of Health that this fund should be spent effectively. This is granted for over the next three years, to support Nigeria’s fight against Tuberculosis (TB), HIV-AIDS, and Malaria.

This directive was issued for 2021-2023 at a virtual launch. It can also support the establishment of effective, resilient, dependable and sustainable systems for health in the country.

“Let me also emphasize here that this administration has zero tolerance for corruption and inefficient use of resources. In this regard, I hereby direct the Minister of Health (Dr Osagie Ehanire) to line up an accountability framework, to watch the utilization of this fund and supply periodic performance reports to my office,” he said.

The President has assured donor agencies and development partners of judicious use of grant by justifying that the funding would complement investments within the health sector. It will help curb new infections, and reduce HIV-AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria-related morbidity and mortality.
