Schools in Cameroon’s Anglophone remains closed as boycott took effect

Spread the news

The majority of the schools in the capital city of Southwest region Beau remains closed due to the boycott called by the activists. Monday, 4th September was the first day of reopening of schools for the academic year 2017-2018, following the August holiday. Most of the parents decided to keep their children at home due to the security threats.

The tensions in the Anglophone region of Cameroon has been constantly rising since last October, due to the clash of Cameroonian forces with the protesters of the English speaking region. The police was accused of beating and arresting the protesters. The Activists also accuse the Cameroonian government as the threat to the increasing demand for either federalism or secession, by the two English-speaking regions of the country, who say they are being marginalized and discriminated against.

Children are facing grievous challenges with their studies as most of the students are running behind from their syllabus, since the crisis begun last year.
