Former South African cricket player Jacques Kallis, along with all-rounder Lisa Sthalekar and Zaheer Abbas of Pakistan, were introduced into the International Cricket Council Cricket Hall of Fame. In the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in the Modern Age, Kallis was South Africans’ fourth and second. Graeme Pollock, Barry Richards and Allan Donald are the other South African inductors. Kallis said it was “a great honour” to be taken into the Hall of Fame and when he began to play, it was something he “never imagined.”
Between December 1995 and July 2014, Kallis played for the Proteas, breaking multiple records in South Africa and worldwide. In addition to being the top test run-scorer, South Africa is the leading player in both Test and ODI Cricket. In 519 matches in every format (166 tests, 328 ODIs, and 25 T20Is), South Africa was represented, with 25,534 world championship games and 577 winners.
The 44-year old received a trophy in Test Cricket for 23 ‘Player of the Match’ awards and spent 592 days at Test Batsman Number One from 2005 to 2011. In both Tests and ODIs Kallis is the only South African batsman who scores more than 10000 runs. He was named ICC Year Player and in 2005 ICC Year Test Player.
