South Sudan looks forward to Pope’s visit

Spread the news

Pope Francis plans to visit South Sudan after accepting the invitation extended to him by church leaders of South Sudan who were at the Vatican on the request of the Holy Father to discuss the situation in Africa’s youngest country.

Pope has accepted the invitation with an aim to preach the message of peace. South Sudan is ensnared in political and inter-ethnic friction and Pope’s visit will mean to bring unity and peace. “If the two leaders of the major faith groups could come and beg for peace – that would make a big impact on the country,” said Archbishop Deng Bul Yak.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights warned this week that South Sudan is agonizing with a mount in hate speech and goading to violence against certain ethnic groups which could result in mass atrocities if the government does not act.
