Sudan declares 3-month state of emergency over deadly floods

Because of the floods dreaded in Sudan, the Security and Defence Council has declared a national state of emergency for three months. These floods have killed over 99 people this year. On Saturday the council also designated Sudan a natural disaster zone. According to sources, the Sudanese minister of labour and social development said that these floods damaged more than half a million people and a total and partial collapse of more than 100,000 homes.

Minister Lena el-Sheikh added that this year floods and rains have broken the record. This year was much worse than the years 1946 and 1988, with expectations of continued rising indicators. According to sources, The council also announced the formation of a supreme committee headed by the ministry of labour and social development to deal with the ramifications of the floods for the fall (autumn) of 2020.
