Tanzania: Former President Benjamin Mkapa dies

Tanzania’s previous president Benjamin Mkapa died on Friday as declared President John Magufuli. He was 81 years old and served from 1995 to 2005. He died in the hospital in  Dar es Salaam while getting treatments as stated by Magufuli and did not give any further details.

Mkapa, was East-Africa’s third president and led several regional peace mediation efforts in office and afterwards. Magufuli expressed his grieve that he will always remember him for his love for the nation, hard work and devotion to lifting up the economy. He also declared a seven-day mourning period, during which all flags will be flown at half-mast.
