Zitto Kabwe, Tanzania opposition leader has been released on bail after he and several members of his party were accused of holding an internal meeting in southern Kilwa district. They were released on Wednesday after taken into police custody the previous day for holding an illegal assembly, according to his ACT Wazalendo party, accusing the government of repression before a presidential election in October.
Seif Sharif Hamad, the party’s chair, greeted Kabwe, for his release and fellow ACT Wazalendo members earlier today, called for a clean sheet of Kabwe. The arrests were meaningless and any attempt to disrupt the legitimate actions of a political party.
