Tobacco companies sue South African government over smoking ban

Spread the news

South African companies are being sued  by the tobacco companies for banning cigarettes and other tobacco products. The South African government did this during the 5 months lockdown. The Government did this act on the basis of the 2002 Disaster Management Act, and gave justification on the grounds of health services from the World Health Organisation(WHO).

The Fair Trade Independent Tobacco Association (FITA), this is an organisation which represents 80 percent of cigarette manufacturers in South Africa, brought to knowledge that there is no logical connection between the ban of cigarettes and the aim to prevent the spread of the Covid19 infection.
