The government of the United Kingdom has agreed to contribute £12.6 million in supporting Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger and Chad’s Lake Chad Basin region in countering terrorism.
The declaration was given by Britain’s foreign Minister Dominic Raab before a global anti-Daesh coalition meeting in Rome on Monday.
“The funds will be used to support both the regionally-led military fight against Daesh, and projects encouraging its fighters to leave the terrorist group,” Mr Raab said.
The coalition meeting is held daily before the 7th anniversary of the proclamation of its self-declaration in Iraq and Syria by the fear groups, and two years since the territorial loss of the caliphate in Syria.
Foreign Ministers from around 45 different countries attended to discuss “deepening cooperation,” including emerging challenges across the African continent, in combating Daesh and its affiliated terrorist groups.
