Jammeh leaves Gambia, allegedly takes millions and luxury cars along

Spread the news

Yahya Jammeh, the former President of Gambia, finally left for exile amidst a mounting international pressure. However, as per Mai Ahmad Fatty, special adviser to the new President, he has taken more than 500 million dalasis and luxury vehicles along with him, practically vacating the state coffers.

“The Gambia is in financial distress. The coffers are virtually empty. That is a state of fact,” Mr Fatty said. “It has been confirmed by technicians in the ministry of finance and the Central Bank of the Gambia.”

Meanwhile, the Gambians celebrated on the streets as the regional army entered the capital city of Banjul and took control of the presidential palace, to make it “safe” for the arrival of the democratically elected President Adama Barrow.
