Climate change threatens Mauritius ‘Blue Economy’

Coastal erosion caused by climate change and pollution have made the working conditions for fishermen at the port difficult.

Environmental damage in the area is causing scarcity of fish and lack of financial capability. The Economic Commission for Africa has presented several programs to small developing island states of Africa, focusing on the development opportunities of the blue economy.

Mauritius organized a ministerial conference on the economies of ocean and climate change on September 1-2. The outcome of the event is to be submitted to the United Nations conference on climate in Marrakesh scheduled on November 7-18th.
