Senegal levels up in the drive of renewable energy with its new solar park

Senegal launched a new 20-megawatt solar power plant in Bokho, north of the country, entering into a new era of renewable energy with an effort to save planet from the consequences of greenhouse effect.

A Paris-based investment company, GreenWish focused on renewable energy in Sub-Saharan Africa developed and built the $28 million project.

Senegal’s president commitment at COP21 takes shape with the launch of this project, which is a 20-megawatt Synergy 2 project, located near Mauritian border, with an aim to serve 160000 people to fulfill Senegal’s target of equipping 20% of its electricity needs with renewable energy by the end of 2017.

According to GreenWish, Senergy 2 is set to prevent the emission of carbon dioxide by 23,000 tonnes each year.
