The United Nations refugee outfit (UNHCR) has criticized the recent deportations by Sudan of Eritrean nationals. The body expressed extreme worry over the activity.
As suggested by media reports, more than 100 Eritreans have been deported in the last few weeks, some after serving jail terms and others immediately after court rulings.
The major concern of UNHCR is that the rights of these refugees were being violated under the regulation of international laws.
According to Elizabeth Tan, the deputy representative for Sudan, the refugees were deported on the charges of illegal entry into Sudan and it is not supported by the international refugee law.
Most of them were imprisoned because of the offence of infiltrating the Sudanese territory illegally. Radio Dabanga, a private channel said that total 104 Eritreans were affected by the deportations out of which 30 were children.
Tensions have been surging up in the border areas between the two countries. Recently a United Kingdom travel advice suggested Brits to avoid travelling to areas on the border like Tesseney and Barentu, all located in the south-west of Eritrea.
