Political uncertainty in Zimbabwe as Mugabe refuses to resign

Zimbabwe is reeling under political uncertainty as President Robert Mugabe refuses to resign after a reported coup.

There was a military takeover on Wednesday amidst a power struggle over who would succeed the 93-year-old President, who leads the ruling Zanu-PF Party.

There has been no official word on the outcome of talks he had with regional envoys and the army chief earlier. But sources say he has so far refused to agree to move aside.

The unfolding predicament is the outcome of an apparent bid to expand the Mugabe dynasty.

First Lady Grace Mugabe is said to be eyeing the vice presidency after President Mugabe sacked Emmerson Mnangagwa, an ally of the army, on November 8.
