Morocco: BCIJ Director Khiame announces new strategy to prevent radicalization of Moroccans living abroad

The Director of Morocco’s Central Bureau for Judiciary Investigations (BCIJ), Abdelhak Khiame has announced a new strategy to prevent any risk of radicalization of Moroccans living abroad.

In an interview with the Spanish news agency EFE, Khiame stressed on the excellent cooperation between Moroccan and Spanish intelligence services.

Recalling cooperation with other countries in this field, he said that there is coordination between Morocco and European police services in the face of numerous cases of radicalization of young migrants, stressing the need for Morocco to have full access to the databases of the European Police Office (Europol).

By having access to these databases, he added, BCIJ will get information on all these young people, many of whom are binational, who may face violent extremism.

“We have called on our Western counterparts to share with us the data they have,” Khiame said, noting that one of the main lessons to be learned from last year’s attacks in Catalonia is the need to strengthen the ongoing exchange of information between different intelligence services.
