Joining 30 Campaign: Commit Opportunities, Leadership and Equal Pay

30 campaigns which called for equal pay, equal leadership and equal opportunities for women in the clean energy industry by 2030, the African Energy Chamber has become a signatory to Equality. A number of its partners, including Centurion Law, Tsavo Oilfield Services, Apex Industries, DMWA Energy, Germany Africa Business Forum, Africa Oil & Power, have joined the Chamber in this initiative.

The Equal by 30 campaign seeks to encourage gender equality and ensure that women are at the very core of the energy industry. The Chamber and its members, as signatories, adopted ideals and introduced concrete action to increase women’s involvement in the energy sector and close gender disparities in Africa.

This campaign is a joint C3E project to encourage involvement by the women in the renewable energy transition to close the gender gap and the international energy agency. Equal for 30 is a joint project of The Renewable Energy Sustainability Campaign (C3E). The Equal by 30 campaign aims at making public and private sector commitments in order that women in the renewable energy sector can strive for fair pay, fair leadership and equal
opportunities by 2030.

It is more important than ever for political, environmental, financial and social resources to be combined in order to build in Africa a more inclusive energy market, and we strongly agree with the coalition that this can not be achieved without women involved. The Chamber and its partners, who are all part of the call, have numerous and
complementary fields of activity, which make it a strong community to advance the campaign’s agenda across the continent of Africa.

“It is not a question of women adding incredible value to their energy-sector businesses. The African energy sector has to move beyond words and platitudes and ensure that women are included in every aspect of our energy sector “said NJ Ayuk, President and CEO of the African Chamber of Energy.

“We are proud to be fully supporting the Chamber’s campaign and to include many energy companies as well. There’s a lot of change at the moment so there’s no better time to build a bright future for women looking ahead to 2030 and beyond, “Ayuk added. The global energy industry will only thrive if we harness all available talent, i.e. eliminate barriers to female involvement, empower women and create a more sustainable global energy market. The energy industry is still one of the world’s most gender-sensitive. In 2015, world leaders vowed to create parity between women and girls and empower them by 2030.

To this end, the African Chamber of Energy is proud to be committed to bringing about meaningful improvements in the African energy sector and fostering a prosperous future for all. We invite all other stakeholders to join the initiative and look forward to collaborating with governments, industry and civil society to tackle the complexities of the transition to energy with a diversified, inclusive power team. With the signing of seven organisations, they currently have a total of 144 signatory organizations, comprising 118, 13 partners and
13 governments. Equal to 30 is led and based in the Government of Canada’s Natural Resources Canada division.
