Nigeria: India Donates Essential Medicines to Combat COVID-19

India’s act of donating medicines to Nigeria has been described by the Honorable Health Minister as “gracious and touching,” as the global epidemic affects both of the countries; India, as does Nigeria, has its own challenges, and India has always managed to locate money to contribute to Nigeria and others. 

Dr. Ehanire also confirmed this as Shri Abhay Thakur, High Commissioner of India for Nigeria, came to bring 586 Cartons of drugs for the war against COVID-19, a gift to Nigeria from the Indian government and citizens. 

Donated drugs included Hydroxychloroquine and antibiotics that were submitted to Nigeria by High Commissioner Shri Abhay Thakur in line with the promises reached in the negotiations between Dr H.E. S. Jaisankar and India’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shri Geoffrey Onyeama of 24 April 2020. 

The High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, in a statement on the event, said that “the donation highlights the different and exclusive relations between Nigeria and India.” 

He also pointed out that “Nigeria and India exchange knowledge technology protocols and tactical guidance and long contact between our countries” and that “it is close legend.” Ehanire said “the ties between the two countries covered security, scientific, study and a very large number of other fields and education, particularly.”. “Ehanire also said” The partnerships between India and Nigeria are very legendary. 

He said Indian is the center of the pharmaceutical industry. “We look forward to collaborating with you because we thank you for the donated goods, because of our place in Africa as the most populated nation, a nation with the most fertile people,” he said. “We want to collaborate with you and support you in our attempts to create a change.” We listed your distinction in the manufacture of APIs that is extremely significant to us in Nigeria. 

The Honorable Minister also referred to a “field of concern” to be emphasized: the manufacture of vaccines, which shows that “Nigéria is an ambitious nation of vaccine manufacturing” and that it “has entered into a relationship with a private corporation to develop a vaccine that is used by our people.”
