Diana Russell, leading feminist activist, dies at 81

Diana E.H. Russell was a leading feminine activist and also a scholar who used the term “femicide” to relate the misogynist killing of women, and to distinguish these killings from other forms of homicide. She died on 28 July at the age of 81. She was in a medical facility in Oakland, Calif. She died of some respiratory failure as said by a feminist scholar and friend.

Rusell was born in South Africa, Capetown and studied and explored all kinds of violence against women, including rape, incest, child abuse, battering, pornography and sexual harassment. Her rebellious acts found an outlet in the anti-apartheid movement.
