Covid-19 – Gems Cambridge School to Close Operations

In March a week before the government declared the implementation of a nationwide lockout for two months, Ugandan schools were closed. Although some sector activities have been restored, schools must also be re-started.

According to Mr Riz Ahmed, the chief executive officer, GEMS Africa stated that the management will do whatever they can to decrease the effect and ensure that the next transfer is as smooth and effective as possible as this decision would cause considerable problems for the students and their families.

“We welcome our students into our Terminal 1, which allows us to continue to work and serve our school until its closing date, either now or at the start of Term 2, at the Hillcrest International School in Nairobi , Kenya. We are committed to supporting you with the next steps in your education. Mr. Ahmed said that workers’ salaries shall be paid in full in accordance with their contracts of employment.
