Nigeria: After 30 years of delay, Buhari unveiled Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri Rail Line

After 30 years of delay, finally President  Muhammadu Buhari swore in the 326km Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri rail line for commercial operation yesterday. The president introduced the ancillary facilities yard at the recently named Goodluck Jonathan Railway Complex in Agbor (Owa-Oyibu), Delta State. At the virtual opening of the rail line,  President Buhari directed the Federal Ministry of Transportation to link all the nation’s ports of origin and destination – Apapa, Tin Can, Warri, Onne, Calabar Ports- to the rail network in order to improve overall transportation and economic facilities.

The president said that they have realised the importance of the railway line in the industrialisation and economic development sector as it serves as a backbone for them. The president expressed confidence that this project, which will serve as a vital link of South-South geopolitical zones of the country to the Northern zones, would be completed during the tenure of this administration.
