A study has found that more demand for meat is raising the risk of the pandemic as well as biodiversity loss and climate change. The policymakers should be concerned with the taxes on livestock production and meat consumption to reduce the risk of future lethal pandemics. This study was conducted by the international experts and released on Thursday calling for better protection of nature.
Breeding cattle for beef is another cause of deforestation and also a reason for ecosystem destruction in Latin America. This study warned that pandemics will emerge more often, spread faster, cost more and will be lethal to people than COVID-19 without bold action to halt the habitat destruction that helps viruses hop from wildlife to humans.
