Ghana presidential election: Nana Akufo-Addo declared the winner by 51.59%

Ghana’s interim president Nana Addo Akufo-Addo has been declared the winner. He is now the country’s president. According to sources, the country’s election commission said Akufo Ado had polled 51.59 per cent. This announcement was made on Wednesday. He got this much votes as against main opposition candidate John Mahama’s 47.36 per cent of votes.

At the end of counting votes, he obtained 6,730,413 votes, of the total valid votes cast. Both leading candidates had signed a solemn undertaking. It was about to resolve any electoral disputes. It was done through legal channels. It was called on their supporters to restrict themselves from violence. This took place last week. The police said five people had been killed due to the electoral violence. This was announced on Monday. The Ghanaian Police Service said it recorded more than 60 incidents.
