Hundreds of Nigerian schoolboys released, local governor says

Hundreds of schoolboys of Nigeria who were kidnapped in northwestern Nigeria. They were nearly hebdomadally ago released, a neighbourhood official said late on Thursday, prompting joy and relief for families that had been praying for the boys’ safe return. Aminu Bello Masari, Katsina state Governor said during a televised interview with state channel NTA. He said that 344 boys held within the Rugu Forest in neighbouring Zamfara state had been freed.

He said they have recovered most of the boys. Masari said Nigeria security forces had cordoned off the planet where the boys were being held and had been ordered to not fire their weapons. Earlier, a presidential aide said the schoolboys had been released safely. It had been unclear what percentage were released. They were in amid continuing uncertainty about what percentage were abducted from their all-boys school last Friday in Kankara, a town in Katsina state.
