WHO approves Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID vaccine for emergency use

Days after a panel of experts advised the use of the products in areas where strains of the coronavirus are circulating, the United Nations health agency identified the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and drugmaker AstraZeneca for emergency use.

On Monday, a statement by the World Health Organization (WHO) said the relatively inexpensive shot developed by AstraZeneca-SKBio (South Korea) and the Serum Institute of India had been approved.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general said that they are now ready for the rapid distribution of vaccines, But still got to proportion production.

He also added that the  COVID-19 vaccine developers have to submit their dossiers to WHO. They have to do so for review at an equivalent time as they submit them to regulators in high-income countries.
