Somalia to hold elections within 60 days-Gov’t says

Somalia’s government has announced that the elections that were delayed would be held within 60 days. The elections were erupted by the violence. In mid-April, the two-year extension mandate of President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo expired on February 8 without elections being held, resulting in violent clashes within the capital.

All Somali Leaders were gathered for key election talks.

In early May, Farmajo had tasked Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein to oversee that elections were held as soon as possible. The PM held a gathering of all political leaders last Saturday where all of them agreed to carry elections within subsequent 60 days. Abdirahman Yusuf, deputy minister of information reading the communiqué said that the exact dates will be decided by the committee in charge of organizing the elections, the FEIT.
