Indian strain ‘Delta’ of Coronavirus show for Ghana

Head of West Africa Center for Cell Biology and Infectious Pathogens, Professor Gordon Awendare has confirmed the entry of Indian variant of coronavirus for Ghana.

The Indian strain which they call ‘Delta’ according to the World Health Organization (WHO) is a “variant of concern.” Biomedical science officials say that the presence of this variant is a matter of consideration.

The nature of the virus is very stubborn so they have shifted to Pfizer rather than AstraZeneca and Sputnik V because it has a better chance at protecting against the virus.

Entry of the variant:

Health Officials say the Indian variant entered Ghana through the immigration of people. Professor Awendare says that the officials should adopt safety measures to contain the spread of the virus.

So far Ghana has recorded 95,059 cases of Covid-19 since the virus entered the country last year and out of these 93,005 people recovered and 794 people died.
