Burkina Faso President Roch Kabore detained

A foreign report confirms that Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore has been detained by the military soldiers, following a military coup. The news came amid the confusion and assumptions of the whereabouts of the President. It was cited from a West African diplomat and security forces that Mr. Kabore was detained by mutinying soldiers.

This coup was identified when gunshots were heard just outside the Presidential residence and are suspected that the leader is being detained in a military camp. However, the government of Burkina Faso denies any allegation of any coup conducted by the military.

The government mentioned that gun fires were underway by the military from their camps in their demand for additional support to fight against the Islamists.

West Africa has been a victim of many Jihadists and Islamist organizations mushrooming in the region, causing millions to disperse, many to die, and bringing unrest in the region. Burkina Faso is one of the regions that has been boiling with frustration owing to the increasing terrorist activities and the failure of the government to bring peace to the region.

The incident was followed by protesters coming out in support of the mutineers and ransacking Kabore’s political party headquarters.
